1. Creativity
· How do you deal with deadlock situations?
If I get stuck in my work, usually looking for the solution on the web. If I can not find appropriate help, then I think about who could help in the matter. If I find the right person then I ask him for help.
Sometimes I start other work, then after I return to the original problem.
2. Achievement Orientation
· Thinking about a difficult task you were required to undertake, what extra effort did you exert to achieve the goals set and accomplish a task?
Due to the nature of my I can not begin to relax until you feel solving a problem. It takes a lot of waking nights. Because usually I do not plan to carry out a task, I step-by-step solving the target. Unfortunately, this causes a lot of extra work. But a lot of extra work to help see through the details, and to learn more about the subject. I test every sections in the task of preparing time. At the end of the work should not have to deal with a lot of the probes.
3. Leadership
· Describe your leadership style and give an example of a situation when you successfully led a group.
I am a business man over 10 years ago and direct employees. This is a part of my daily job, so I got good experience in this field. In all cases of work I try to distribute the tasks so everyone gets the best job capable of.
But all situations are different so always need find the better way.
4. Organisational sensitivity
· Consider a time when you made an intentional effort to get to know someone from another culture. What did you do? What was the outcome?
I have moved from Hungary to the UK 6 years ago. My last years have only been about meeting new people and learning more about the British culture. In many cases I have tried to get to know the people who live in my area, but we have never really got to be friends. We know many people now, however due to cultural differences, other things are important to us. I continuously try to adapt to the English culture, however a lot of things are odd or seem unnecessary to us and it is not easy to put our culture behind.
I have been to Africa on many occasions, where I tried to get to know the people and the culture, but I think I only seen what tourism has shown me.
I have tried to make friends with the British students, but due to the age difference and my lack of knowledge of the English language, I could not fit in. However I could make friends with people from other countries and we help each other if we can and sometimes we spend time playing sports together.
5. Personal Development
· How do you record your achievements?
I keep all my certificates and other achievement in a folder. In the folder, the different achievements and certificates are stored in sleeves.
I save every electronically stored information in two or three different places, on the home computer, on my laptop and on a portable USB drive. All my work is in separate folders named after the subject or its content
6. Planning & Organisation
· How do you typically plan your day to manage your time effectively?
Since I have been working in all my life since I was 14 at two or more places, I have learned to spend my time well. Under continuous pressure I have always focused on the more important tasks, and also spent some time on the less important ones. Since I am currently working on 4-5 different things, it is impossible to do all the tasks, but I still have to take care of my family and have to look after the life and behaviour of my 3 children.
7. Image
· How would the people you work with/your friends describe you?
I think this should be asked from them.
All this time was taking care of others and help others. I always try to help everyone to the best of my abilities, however some people always misuse this.
For example I have wrote a blog on the life in the UK and my experiences. One of my articles has been read by more than 40000 people (http://www.frankofamily.info/elet-az-egyesult-kiralysagban-angliaban).
I tried to help many people who were strangers to me, but due to bad experiences I am doing this more rarely.
Since almost for 30 of my life I have been working continuously, I have achieved many things, but I had to put some things behind because of friends and family problems.
Apart from work, I like to study, that’s why I have been to school for over 18 years.
8. Listening
· What have you done to improve your listening skills?
I have come to the University because of that. Since I have started working less hours as what I thought of, I don’t think I am improving enough, but that’s why I attend all lectures. At the beginning of the year, I have tried to look for information regarding the language lessons available at the university, but there was no information given on this during our timetable and the lecturer did not know an exact answer either, but that’s why many students were there. Since I could not get any exact information, I did not attend the language lessons given at the university this year. Throughout the year, the lack of English has caused me a lot of problems, so next year I will attend all the language lessons that I can, improving my understanding of the English language.
9. Teamwork/working with others
· Think about a team project. What did you do to contribute toward creating a teamwork environment?
Since the university focuses a lot on teamwork, I try to take part in these occasions as much as I can. That’s why I attended the event organised by IBM and the local council in the first half of the year, where a small group of people had to do different tasks. I hope I will have more chances to work in teams later on, where I can improve my skills.
10.Written Communication
· Think about the most significant written document/report/presentation which you had to complete. What was difficult? What was easy? How did you feel about the result? What would you have done differently? (Context Lecture 3 term 2 Jan 21st)
As there was no exact information with the application to the University, I thought that the education would have had less writing and more work based lectures. I have no problems with the work based studies, but the written study requires a lot of work. In my first tasks I have not spent enough time working on my text based work. When I have got used to the system and have put more effort into my texts, they affected my results negatively. For example I have not referenced any of my work, and they only have told us about the importance of referencing after we have finished our second portfolio. This information was always available in the university, however I have never found them on my own. Another problem was caused by having to write a portfolio on a subject that I have never heard of and was not told any information on. We have only learnt about the subject months after the portfolio was finished. Since we have only received the results from three out of five portfolios, I do not yet know what mistakes I have made during the last two.
11.Technical Knowledge
· How do you keep up to date with what is happening within your technological field over and above what is required for the degree programme? (Context Lecture 3 term 2 Jan 21st)
Since I have worked on this subject for a decade, I always try to keep up with the technological advancements. As to what we will be learning during our time in the University, I do not know. To try to improve my personal skills it was always in my interest to buy the newest technology available. As I do it as a hobby as well, it is easy for me to keep up. For example even after knowing the details of our Mini Project I still have bought a more advanced, newer Lego Robot. When I bought the newest version I have realised that the new version was too complex to complete my project, so I have bought the two versions before this one, so I can have better experience with them. I have also learnt that they all still use the same control units, so there are no technological differences between them. So to sum up, I always learn from my mistakes.
12.Tolerance for Stress
· What do you do when priorities change quickly? Think of a situation when this has happened. How did you react? (Context Lecture 3 term 2 Jan 21st)
The business life has got me familiar with reacting to quick changes. This does not cause me any difficulty. I am able to make immediate decisions quickly, which I can continuously adapt to depending on the changes in the situation.
13.Listening
· Think about a recent successful experience in making a speech or a presentation. How did you prepare? What obstacles did you face? How did you handle them?
Unfortunately I did not have many successful text based presentations in the past few months. As it is one of my weakest skills I try not to put too much pressure on it. I do not have any problems presenting something to a group of people in my language, however due to the lack of knowledge in English, I can not present a work the way I wanted to. This had a huge impact on me when I signed up for the University, this year did not meet my expectations, so I have to focus more in this area. Since I am still do the work in my language, I do not have enough experience. I am trying to find more opportunities to improve my English language through a lot of practice.
14.Planning & Organisation
· How do you differentiate and prioritise short and long term needs?
As my main goal is to achieve long term achievements, I try to include my short term achievements with the long term ones. I think a long term goal can only be reached by building on a lot of smaller goals first. Most of the time in everyday life, this means that they follow of logic, they are limited by the upcoming tasks. For example in many cases you can’t just leave out a smaller task, because it will affect the achievement of the next goal, sometimes even preventing it completely. If the given tasks within the goal are all following a direct path, I always do the most direct task first. I can make it easier that if I get stuck on one task, I move onto another, then only later will I do the task I was stuck on, which had worked for me so far. All these variables affect my everyday life, from making sure that’s my family is safe and healthy, up to my business, so I have enough experience in this area as well.
15.Analysis
· How do you ensure you have captured the key information from written or verbal information presented to you?
When I have to complete a task that I have done before, I build up on my previous experiences. With tasks that I have never done before I would try to prepare with information before I have to finish the task if possible, and I acquire the most basic information on the subject. With every opportunity I make notes, or I write down the most important points. Which during my work gets marked, I add to, so that any missing information will become obvious. I have missed anything in my presentation, I would compensate for it by asking question specific to the areas I have missed. If I do not have the opportunity to ask question, I will look for information in the subject, If that’s also not possible, I will ask a friend or someone who is doing it professionally, to try to get the missing information.
