Task
CET234 Professional Practice Week 1 (Part A)
This assessment is released in two parts
We envisage this assessment will take a maximum of 18 hours to complete in total.
You are being assessed on the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
1. Appreciate the importance and context of UXD in the development
of a hybrid mobile application
2. Understanding of tools and techniques used in the analysis, design
and development of hybrid mobile applications
Skills
1. Utilise web programming languages and frameworks to construct a
hybrid mobile application
2. Apply UXD design and test techniques for a hybrid mobile
application
Scenario
You recently applied for an internship with a web and mobile
development company. In your application you mentioned you had
created some small web and mobile applications using HTML, CSS and
Javascript.
Today you open your email account and have received the following
email:
From: Multimedia Team
To: Applicant
Hi
Thanks for emailing about the internship programme.
We’re pleased to confirm receipt of your application.
We were interested to hear about the work you’ve been
doing with web and mobile technologies, as we’re
always on the lookout for people with skills in this
area.
So we can get a feel for the work you’ve been doing
and your approach to development, we’d like you to
create a small prototype as part of a technical test.
We’re currently investigating the use of hybrid
mobile development and have asked each applicant to
create a small prototype application using a range of
different tools and frameworks.
You mentioned you’ve used Framework 7 as a front-end
framework. We took at a look at the documentation
website (https://framework7.io/docs/) and we like it.
It looks very flexible. It certainly sounds like
we’ll be able to create Android and iOS experiences
easily with the framework.
We’d like you to create a small prototype application
using Framework7 with HTML, CSS and Javascript. So we
can share your work with others in the team, we’d
also like you to use GIT and NPM locally. We use GIT
and NPM a lot for our projects.
No need to use GitHub or Bitbucket for this project,
just work locally and initialise your project
directory.
We’d like you to create a little mobile app about
your favourite computer games.
We’ve provided a small JSON file with some data,
which we’d like you to populate and create into a
basic master/detail application. No need to add extra
key/value pairs, just populate the 5 objects with
sensible data.
Before you get started on the development, I’d
appreciate if you could send me a prototype using
Adobe XD. 3 screens is enough just
showing the basic layout of application and how the
user will flow between screens. Our
developers often use Powerpoint, Visio or Word to
mock these up quickly, but we heard that you’re using
Adobe XD as a rapid prototyping tool. It looks good.
We always mock up some basic wireframes or a quick
demo before we start development, as it makes it
easier to get a good idea of the UI and
functionality, before we start working with the code.
If you could send me the XD prototype by Thursday
10am, I can see what direction you’re taking
and confirm that’s what we’re after. I may make some
suggestions or changes based on what you present.
That will give you from Thursday until Friday evening
to develop the prototype.
I’m meeting with the development team at the end of
the week, so would be grateful if you could ZIP your
directory and send it back to us by Friday at 5pm.
Once we’ve reviewed your prototype, we’ll get back to
you with our feedback and next steps.
Look forward to seeing what you create.
Kind regards
Development Team
PS, our team will grade each submission using a
feedback sheet, which I’ve attached. Be sure to take
a look at the document, as it will give you an idea
of what we expect to see in these types of
applications.
